Proper Dirty : Fall Winter 2022, A Butterfly Dream
Collection concept and story:
The influential psychoanalyst Carl Jung once said, “The pendulum of the mind oscillates between sense and nonsense, not between right and wrong.” We immerse ourselves into the world of duality, yet close to the end we yearn to return back to oneness.
The transformation is a change in consciousness between reality and illusion. The constant flux between dreams and awakening leads the ‘self’ to change from being unaware of the distinction between things to being aware of the definite distinction between and among things.
‘A Butterfly Dream’ merges an excerpt of a monologue as well as a screenplay manifested as mixed media graphics with influences by architecture and decor. Proper Dirty invites the audience to immerse in the elements of playwriting as transformation occurs across the protagonist’s conflict; an internal and external journey. With outward eyes the protagonist observes and soaks in melancholy, leading to a monologue of doubts and illusions. Merging two contrasting atmospheres, an internal journey into the universal and dream-like; leads to a monologue of a non-existent way of being.
